The Chats have put their pub-punk spin on Metallica‘s classic ‘Holier Than Thou’ as part of The Metallica Blacklist, the massive 53-track covers compilation paying tribute to the metal icons’ self-titled 1991 record.
As far as their arrangement, the band stay relatively faithful to the trashing original, with frontman Eamon Sandwith giving his best Hetfield impression. That said, there’s some notable Chats energy blistering throughout, particularly with Sandwith’s distinctive inflection sneaking in.
All the profits from The Chats’ cover will go to two organisations, Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.
The Metallica Blacklist arrived on Friday, and featured an enormous smorgasbord of artists paying tribute to the band. The compilation had previously been previewed with contributions by the likes of Miley Cyrus, St. Vincent, Rina Sawayama, IDLES, Phoebe Bridgers and Biffy Clyro.
Other artists who featured on the compilation include Mac DeMarco, Weezer, PUP, Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor, Kamasi Washington and many, many more.
